SAT Essay Writing Tutoring

In March, 2005 the College Board added a required essay component to the basic SAT test. Many students are not fully prepared to do well on this test. Dr. Sage, a certified SAT essay grader, has extensive experience in evaluating SAT essays and coaching students in this area.

In person (limited to New York City area)

We designed this course as a package of five lessons. During these lessons Dr. Sage evaluates the student’s level, explains techniques for strengthening the weak points, and shows how revision can improve the final product.

The Process (based on 5 lessons)

  • For one student:
    • Each lesson is 1.5 hours at Dr. Sage's office.
    • $700 fee for the package of five lessons.
  • For two students:
    • Each lesson is 1.5 hours at Dr. Sage's office.

GRE Essay Writing Tutoring

Prepare yourself for the Analytical Writing section of the GRE by acquiring a disciplined way of writing arguments and analyzing topics.

The Process

This is a one-on-one coaching package. There are six one-and-a-half hour sessions in the package which must be completed within two months to achieve the maximum benefit. Three additional reinforcement sessions are recommended.

  • Sessions 2-4: Three lessons devoted to practicing the writing argument component of the GRE.
  • Sessions 5 and 6: Two lessons focused on the analyzing topics section of the GRE.
  • Sessions 7-9: Three additional practice lessons for reinforcement (recommended)

Dr. Howard Sage

About Dr. Sage

Dr. Howard Sage is a journalist, professor, and consultant to executives of American and multinational companies including Time Warner, Dun and Bradstreet (Italy), G.D.P. Associates.  Currently he teaches English at Hunter College and The Borough of Manhattan Community College, both part of CUNY. Among his many publications are Fictional Flights published by Heinle & Heinle and Incorporating Literature in ESL Instruction published by The Center for Applied Linguistics. He earned his Ph.D. from New York University and a second Master’s degree in Creative Writing from The City College of New York.
